Immersive projection-mapped installation exploring the creation of Handel’s Messiah
I designed and created an immersive audio-visual installation for Handel & Hendrix House, exploring the creative process behind Handel’s composition of Messiah. Through projection mapping, animation and synchronised visual storytelling, the installation transformed the historic room into a living representation of inspiration, musical composition and creative genius.
The experience unfolded across four interconnected elements within the space. Projection mapping on the harpsichord highlighted the keys as they were played, visually tracing Handel’s evolving musical ideas. On the writing desk, animated manuscripts appeared to be written in real time, following the development of the composition in sync with the music. An open bible on the central table became another projection surface, where selected words and passages illuminated as moments of inspiration emerged.
The experience culminated in a large-scale projection across the walls of the room, combining animated manuscript details, sparks, particles and fireworks choreographed to the score. These visual elements represented the intensity, energy and brilliance of the creative process — translating the emotion and momentum of the music into an immersive visual experience.
